The idea of Square One started in the beginning of Samantha Cross' professional career at a large financial services firm when Samantha realized she was ill prepared for the personal financial commitments that “adulthood” entailed. It turns out, speaking to clients with billions of dollars in assets does not prepare you to understand how a mortgage works!
After finding this was the feeling of many of her colleagues, friends and family, she educated herself on the grown up world of personal finance, and in turn, began teaching others. Her passion was born in this effort to ensure that financial literacy was a basic skill taught to all at key points in their lives. After 13 years working in Investment Banking, Samantha made Square One her full time job in 2014 to meet the demand for the overwhelming need of people for financial education.
Understanding how to manage the complex world of personal finance starts with gaining a knowledge of the concepts involved, and Samantha is dedicated to ensuring that these concepts are learned and understood by her clients. When the foundation is strong, the possibilities are endless.
Samantha is also a financial literacy educator for the CT Department of Consumer Protection and sits on the board of the CT chapter of JumpStart.
